Does peer discovery slow down torrent downloads?

I'm trying to download this torrent when my seed/peer ratio is right now and consistently staying at that however my download speed is kb/s. My steam downloading speed is usually mb/s. This is happening with many other torrents as well, not just this specific one. Many seeders/peers, yet very slow download I can usually download torrents at around MB per second, yet this one refuses to get above 3 KB per second, even though it has hundreds of seeders and peers (to be honest, I don't exactly know the difference, I just know that more = faster).Missing: peer discovery.  · If you can download a torrent on another network (particularly a fast wifi network), then it’s likely that your wifi network is causing the issue. To fix this, tap on Menu, then Settings, then Incoming TCP Port in our app. Look at the TCP Port number, and increment it up by one. For example, if your port number is , make it Estimated Reading Time: 3 mins.

I just picked up nordVPN and when I torrent a file with p2p servers its slow, like ridiculously slow. About kb/s max across all types of files. I've tried different servers, disabled utp, 3 different clients. My normal internet is around mbps and torrents pre vpn (legit torrents) were about 15 mb/s average. Any fixes for this? Answer: The BitTorrent protocol is peer to peer, i.e, there is no central server from which you download a file. Instead, a file is shared between a network of users. Also, unlike conventional downloads, a torrent is downloaded in small (~1MB) pieces, and they need not be downloaded serially, but. If you are using a torrent application to P2P then I would check your settings for uTP. I had the same issue before with incredibly slow downloads until I disabled uTP and it got back to regular download speeds. There is another thread on this I found where people go through the specifics but essentially disable it for speed link. Hope this helps.

Generally, because of my slow connection, I will get the file and then seed until the ratio is Since i've been having these slow torrent issues, i've set the upload speed to 0 so it can go as high as it wants. im still getting the horrible slow down speeds tho, even tho the upload is a constant kb (64k isdn maxes out at kb up and down). DHT and PeX peer discovery help you to discover more peers globally, which means more possible seeders for you to download from. Also, some trackers or peers will only connect to encrypted peers, for privacy, so by allowing encryption you are also widening your pool of potential peers. By default, uTorrent enables DHT, Local Peer Discovery, and Peer Exchange. If you are downloading from public trackers, leave the boxes checked. BitTorrent is the only method used by uTorrent to distribute data over the Internet. If this protocol is limited, the connection with other peers becomes slow or impossible.
